Welcome to Secrets of GTR2 where I will be recording my experience, tips, tricks, resources and other helpful information as I get into GTR2. Secrets of is a series of blog posts I started with Secrets of iRacing and which has grown to include Secrets of GTR2, Secrets of Race 07, Secrets of Automobilista, and Secrets of rFactor 2.The “secrets” part is a little dramatic.

I'm leaning towards MB 190E in SP2 or maybe the Audi TT-R.In any event, to get people in the mood, here are some photos from the VLN race that I attended in September 2010. (yes, I'm hyping this again, in case anybody remembers my original post)- 10/08/12 10:26 PM Re: GTR2 - VLN racingJoined: Apr 2010Posts: 1,353SimHQ MotorSports EditorSimHQ MotorSports EditorMemberJoined: Apr 2010Posts: 1,353. Is that another name for the Focus? The Fiesta is the Focus's little brother - short and light. A bit like the Clio to the Megane.

It's sold worldwide but extremely popular in UK/Europe.Ok, but I don't see a Fiesta in your spotters guide. Just a Focus. I haven't looked into it in game, because I like big Fords not small ones lol.facepalm. Oops, my bad. That's a Fiesta not a Focus. You would think seeing a Focus ST is my daily driver i'd know the difference lolI'll correct the text later when i'm on my home PC.

Doug - I hosted a local multiplayer server on my PC to test the aids.In setting up the host options I allowed autogears, autoclutch, TC, and ABS - nothing else. When it was up and running, I could enable the autogears but the TC and ABS were disallowed.I went back out, hit the 'realism' settings, and switched from simulation to semi-pro. Then I launched the server again, and I was able to choose the proper aids.Looks like my 'realism' menu settings were overriding the server settings. Given that I was hosting local instead of dedicated I'm not sure if it makes a difference.Anyway, here's my PLR file if you want to glance over it.

I checked it before and the multi allowed aids number changed after I made the adjustments. Doug I just tried the -1505. It didn´t change anything when offline nor online. However it did make the server show up in the list which it didn´t before I changed that number. It did say in the rules for the server, in the lobby, that it allowed the aids but none of them worked on the server. It would appear that the chosen realism mode (simulation, semi-pro) affects what servers you see in the multiplayer list.I get a different list depending on which mode I'm in, and the SimHQ server is in the 'simulation' list. Here's a setup for the Audi R8 based around the five-lapper; for the longer events it should be no more than adding fuel and switching tire compound.I'm managing 1:26's with it - the setup is neutral with a hint of understeer, but the back end can go around if you get too aggressive on the curbs.A better driver can probably be comfortably in the 25's and with some handling adjustments, maybe lower.but as it stands, it's a very stable car, pretty easy to drive. If you're looking for a speedy ride that isn't too hard to tame, this is your car.It bottoms out on the downhill-to-uphill transitions, so just be aware of your position and direction on the track since two of them bottom out just before a corner entry (the first one is just before Druids, but it bottoms early enough that it doesn't affect you).(I should note my wheel is set to 360 degrees of rotation, and I'm at 100% steering sensitivity, 15% throttle sensitivity, and 25% brake).

I tried both modes just to make sure. At first I thought it was my firewall playing tricks on me again, but it only started showing up in the lobby when I changed to the number Doug said to try.

Don´t know why it only worked then, apparently others have had no issues with connecting. Just my luck I guess.- 10/12/12 10:53 PM Re: GTR2 - VLN racingJoined: Sep 2000Posts: 22,094LiferLiferJoined: Sep 2000Posts: 22,094. Hi, I just got a copy of GTR2 this past week and would like to get in on this series.

I have installed the patches and mod and tracks. When I try to join the server the message comes up ' Game not available. Host may be running an updated or modified game. 'So does that mean I have not installed the VLN mod properly?I am an iracer, just wanted to try something else on-line. Thanks.- 10/14/12 11:07 PM Re: GTR2 - VLN racingJoined: Apr 2010Posts: 1,353SimHQ MotorSports EditorSimHQ MotorSports EditorMemberJoined: Apr 2010Posts: 1,353. Try the lotus before you praise me, maybe its much better than the Audi.Embrace yourselves, this letter might go long, things inside me wanna come out (Ripley would take care of this.)So, it looks like I got the hang of it now.To be honest, I practised for brands hatch a lot.For one and a half weeks I spent 2 hours on the track almost every day (most of it in the Lambo, switched to the Audi for the last 3 days, but it was a really relaxed car, much easier to drive).I know you all aware of this, but knowing the track in and out means a lot. Arriving in the corner I already knew if I have the right speed or position (just because I have been in that corner many times), and was able to avoid things previously I ran into. Also, because of mistakes, I completed these corners in countless different ways, which payes off in a racing environment, when sometimes you see another car on the optimal line, and you have to choose a different approach. Then comes the car.

Right click the icon and you have 2 options:'New reassignment of contact/connector' or 'sound settings' (or my english translation is a little off). Hp laptop low volume.

Understanding the bevaviour, limits and margins for error. More importantly, how these are changing during the race (in a lot of cases I was ok for the first 5 laps, but since never practised how it behaves with weared down tyres, I lost it in the middle of the race).Oh and the setup. I still hate it, but learned to optimise the gears already. Also learned to adjust the tyre pressure and cambers for reaching optimal temperature, but that is all.Still no clue about differential, all those springs, casters, bars etc. I also have to excuse myself too, but in my timezone, these practise races are just too late. That 2:05 looks really good!I am still in an early stage of my practise, I've just arrived under 2:09.

Learning this track takes time.Audi TT is one of my candidates, but still testing the RS8 and the Ferrari. The Lambo is still untameable, the Viper is just too much for me.Best fit would be the Elise, I am in love with that car, but it has no chance in this group.I am really sorry for missing Oran Park last week. Congratulations to those who had the time to run Suzuka.Last race in the VLN Series is next Sunday at Green Hell.Daylight Savings Time ends in the U.S. On Sunday, 4 November at 2 AM.Clocks will go back one-hour at that time.

Yeah, that night storm race was pretty cool. Note to self.don't think you can hotlap on intermediate tires in the rain! I came in to change tires to medium wets which helped, but the rain was coming down in buckets.lol.This was a great course with some good speed to be had. Definately my taste in tracks with good flow and not terribly technical. The Audi TT was an awesome ride with a little tweaking, and it sounded pretty cool too.The Green Hell.hmmm.glad I'll be working next weekend.

I never have much luck there, and I don't like the F1 course section once I have my car tuned for the mountains.lol. Three of the cars seem pretty well suited for this course, but the Mercedes just sounds sooo cool.but is a beech to drive. I almost forgot to say thank you to everyone for this event.I really enjoyed it!First I thought that the OPEL Astra wasn't the best choice, but the car behaved well and driving it was a joyful experience. Since it has a small engine, I could do the 10 lapper with one pitstop, however, this took a toll on my tyres, during the last 2 laps it was really hard to keep my car on the road, but most of the time I succeed.Mastering Nordschleife should take years I assume, so I was happy to finish all 3 races in one piece.I feel sorry for all you guys dropped out (connection issue and autopilot issue I remember).Once again, thanks! I'd like to echo the sentiments above. Despite a disappointing turnout (shame you just missed it Col) I enjoyed Sundays racing more than any i've done for some time. This mod is great, and as Staniol pointed out GTR2 really has that seat of your pants rawness that just can't be found anywhere else.

Kudos to Ben and Stan for surviving the the Green Hell.A thoroughly enjoyable series. Thanks for everyone who attended and Doug for sticking with it. For those of us who raced it was more than worth it.
