I don't think you'll find proper 'tutorials' on this from the gamedesign side. Might have slightly better chances if you look more specifically into boardgame-related gamedesign resources.

The systems need to create a potential for interesting choices. Risk/reward choices seem to be quite popular in some games. There need to be multiple valid strategies for achieving your goals in your game. If there is one dominant strategy (maybe try googling that) that is vastly better than everything else, the game is basically 'broken', depending on point of view and what your goal for the game's design. Also make sure that good strategies align with 'fun' activities in the game. The most boring thing a player can do shouldn't be the most effective one. Thanks for the answer.

Yeah, it looks like I need to grind a lot. But I hope it'll be fun.When I was looking for a tutorial, I was hoping to find something like the Unofficial Elder's Scrolls Pages (uesp.net) where they give formulas for mana cost and graphs etc.Anyway the plan was to create simple grids and use the formulas to observe how they affect and work together. Something like debugging and working up backwards. I know it sounds funny but I think that'll be a start.I've been following this forum and its great.
